Le système Öctagon
“The Öctagon is totalitarian and omniscient. Billions of data are generated by this independent system and build a unique reality. Individuals live within the Öctagon. Geographic space doesn’t exist for real, it is not tangible but still defined by a multitude of data.”
Enter the violent and dictatorial world of the Öctagon system, don’t look for it, it’s everywhere, defined by a multitude of data with no geographical area. The “Vertical Hörizon” program has created the Öctagon system and takes care of holding it through the people who feed this unique reality unwillingly. There is neither input nor output. Only three colours exist in the atmosphere: the black & white, related to the unique reality, and the red to remind the totalitarian system. Weather, feelings, and senses are not programmed by the system while the time is frozen. Since Öctagon is dictatorial, the people are watched by the “Surveyör’’ program which verified the disseminated data. For those who are too slow to convert data and perform the tasks, they are immediately disconnected and therefore disappear from this world. While the “Turnöver” carries out the renewal of the people and the processors in the Öctagon.
This story sounds like a George Orwell book but the idea behind Öctagon is a skateboarding video project directed by Joaquim Bay (filming), Nicolas Decatoire (graphics and visual identity) and Clément Vanpeperstraete (production). The movie sets a black & white universe based on the fictional Öctagon story. The passers-by have been blackening to focus on the skateboarding and emphasize the totalitarian atmosphere. Indeed, the disobedient are none other than the skaters, faces uncovered, in order to be differentiated from the obedient overall. The project describes themes such as freedom, hyper technology, society enslavement, and resistance.
This original futurist movie’s soundtrack is made by CleckCleckBoom and supported by Carhartt. Several premieres happened in Berlin, Lille, Gent and Paris, but the official release is finally here. Make sure to watch it with a good sound system.
Yet, there is a flaw, a collective consciousness has been created which break with the Öctagon system. They are the hounds, a group of individuals led by this collective consciousness. They cannot escape the system, but their conscience allows them to make their own data and manage to avoid the “Surveyör” program. Indeed the rebellion has created their own data program dependent on humans: the “Radical Disöbedience”. Their goal is to face the independent system so that human can regain the space from the “Vertical Hörizon”.
