Rafaël Rozendaal
solo show at mu gallery
Young digital artist Rafaël Rozendaal is ready for his solo show in Eindhoven city at the MU gallery. Rozendaal is a visual artist who uses the Internet as his canvas, either by creating websites, installations, paintings, lenticulars or even writings. So it is not too much of a surprise that he collaborates with MU since the gallery has a soft spot for hybrid art, and its programs exudes the 21st century for a usually young audience.
Rozendaal is really well connected, with thirty million unique visitors on his website - and that’s for 2014 only - he finds art through new technologies. For him the Internet offers freedom: it’s cheap, it’s new and it basically provides an infinity of opportunities. The screen is his main medium for which he makes colourful animations that fit into the browser window at any screen size, whether it is on your smartphone or on a huge screen in NYC at Times Square.
Rozendaal believes in the equality of art, indeed. But he’s also offering the domain names for sale - his answer to the returning question of how to make a living with digital art in an era of infinite reproducibility. Yet, the contract stipulates that the works remain online and freely accessible.
