Selim Varol
church-ill smurf war
Our good friend and art collector Selim Varol - remember his stunning “Art & Toys“ exhibition at Berlin's me Collectors Room two years ago? - proudly presented his first own creation by the name of “Church-ill Smurf War“ just yesterday at Toykio Gallery.
The piece is a commentary on political history and current events, which was triggered by a rather unpleasant incident Varol - a German with Turkish passport - had to experience himself at the British consulate. Oh, and it actually works as a bow to Banksy as well, whose 2003 piece “Turf War“ showed a Churchill with a green mohawk.
Varol's first release is solid “smurf” blue with a white mohawk. There will be other color variants limited to 20 pieces each including neon yellow and bright pink. Size: 40 cm high / Material: Rotocast Vinyl / Edition: 77 pieces / Price: 249.- € / 299.- $ / 199.-£. Try to get your hands on it over here.
