ALESSANDRA D'URSO

A BODY SPLIT IN TWO WILL NEVER SLEEP

In the beginning, we were all one.

OPENING THURSDAY JUNE 5TH, 6PM — 9PM
EXHIBITION FROM JUNE 5TH TO JULY 15TH, 2014

In her first solo show at Galerie Nuke Alessandra d’Urso explores her vision of unity and separation through the fragility of her subject matter. Flowers and nudes paint a delicate picture as they are touched by light and shadows. The Big Bang model suggests that at some moment all matter was contained in a single point, which is considered the beginning of the universe.

We came into this world through separation, so natural yet dramatic, moving from our mother’s body into the air. In the first years of our lives we were not conscious of the self as a separate entity from those around us. We saw the universe, and everyone in it, as a whole, and growing up, we never stopped searching for that warmth and harmony. There is unspoken perfection in connection. The word “atom” literally means “indivisible”, and yet quantum mechanics allows an atom to be split and put back together in a way similar to rays of light. The pain of division and the longing for fusion. It is with passion and truth that Alessandra photographs her objects of life, and it is we who receive the electricity of her experience.
