June Newton, aka Alice Springs, isn’t just the widow of Helmut Newton, at 92 years old, she is still very active and a great photographer. In Paris, La Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP) gives tribute to Alice Springs’ work with an exhibition focus on photographs from 1975 to nowadays in colours and black & white, mixing celebrities and more personal photographs.

June Newton is Australian, she was a theatre actress before she met Helmut Newton and the world of photography. In 1948 she became his wife and one of his faithful collaborator for almost 60 years. However, in the 1970’s she started to work as an independent photographer under the pseudonym Alice Springs, since then she has proved her wonderful talent and has worked for many magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Vanity Fair, as well as taking in picture famous actors and actresses.

The exhibition reveals many previously unpublished images, including recent self-portraits, intimate pictures of her husband at work or at home, and a new series produced in California in the early 1980's of the punk movement and American hip-hop.
