Beni Bischof

new watercolors

Anyone can hang art in booths, but few can turn a booth into a real bar. Beni Bischof is a virtuoso at putting life into art and hacking reality. At Artgenève 2019, for example, what already turned the Nicola von Senger Gallery upside down the year before worked: the gallery owner as barman entertained the audience, mixed the drinks, played the songs from his playlist. Everything else was there: bar, alcohol, music, dim light, dark walls, bric-a-brac and decoration - or art?
In Beni Bischof's case, this is not a contradiction. His own works hung on the wall or stood on the counter at 'Nici's Bar'; not set apart, singled out or labeled, but right in the middle, bursting with color, wit and freshness: paintings, collages, objects that feed off reality and effortlessly switch back to it. Just like last summer, when Beni Bischof's porcelain pots appeared in the shop window of a St. Gallen confectionery thanks to the Kunstverein St. Gallen's exhibition project 'Another Long Evening'.

Now Bischof is back at Gallery Nicola Senger with a massive amount of small scale 'Aquarell' pictures. each an unicum and perhaps with his significent humour.
