FASHION MEETS FAITH

by Matija Tomc

THIS IS A STORY ABOUT HUMAN FAITH THROUGH THE NARRATIVE OF FASHION. WE FIND THAT RELIGIOUS PRACTICE AS WELL AS THE CLOTHING ONE WEARS BOTH SERVE AS EXTERNAL EXPRESSIONS OF INNER SELF AND IN DOING SO THEY CONNECT HUMANITY BY OUR COMMON EXPLORATION OF THE SELF AND THE ABSTRACT.

We chose four of most prevalent religions of the world, each one with a distinctive spiritual practice, and paired them with a fashion model to represent the individual on the quest to reach higher purpose. Through this project we learned that it is not so important how you practice faith as long as your path threads opened-mindedness, collaboration, understanding and solidarity.

We would like to give special thanks to all the participants in this story, who with open-mindedness and fullness of heart, gave us the opportunity to make this project happen. We would like to thank to the parish priest Jan C. of the Mary Annunciation parish in Ljubljana, where we shot the story about confession. A big thank you to the Hare Krishna community of Ljubljana where we shot the dancing celebration of Krishna. Many thanks to Muslim community in Ljubljana, especially to Imam Sead K. who led us through prayer and Koran reading and last but not least many thanks to Shechen Buddhist community of Zagreb and the monk Thubten J. who led us through the practice of meditation.

Thank you to all the designers and retailers that collaborated in this story with their designs and fashion garments. Big thanks to Loré fashion brand, Cliché fashion, olgakosica jewellery and Pentlja Concept Store for their unique fashion garments. Many thanks to Liliandroza brand for the opportunity to include garments of Max&Co.
