the witch

Robert Eggers' debut was one of the most talked about films at Sundance this year, no doubt about it, as it is a heavily intense and very different kind of horror film. Favouring dread and atmosphere over jump scares and flat characterization, “The Witch“ took home the award for Best Director. And while it won't see a US release before early 2016, a first teaser trailer just surfaced to make your day a bit creepier.

“New England, 1630: William and Katherine lead a devout Christian life, homesteading on the edge of an impassible wilderness, with five children. When their newborn son mysteriously vanishes and their crops fail, the family begins to turn on one another. “The Witch“ is a chilling portrait of a family unraveling within their own fears and anxieties, leaving them prey for an inescapable evil.“
