Tailored Fibre

Following up the Futurecraft 3D-printed running shoe midsole from last October, adidas unveils the Futurecraft Tailored Fibre today. The new prototype will allow athletes to improve through a combination of the craft of shoe making and cutting edge technology while the fibres used in production being tailored around the foot. At the same time an huge amount of waste from the traditional shoe making process is going to be eradicated as this process is incredibly efficient.

The combination of different synthetic and natural fibres allows detailed fine-tuning of the fit, feel and look of a shoe and enable the tailoring of specific functional zones, with less weight and complexity. The cutting edge machinery used in the process can be reprogrammed quickly to allow for real time changes to suit the athletes’ needs.
