Jean-Michel Basquiat

notebooks to be published

Brooklyn-born artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988), one of the most important New York artists of the 80s, filled numerous notebooks with his texts, poems and personal observations on a variety of subjects between 1980 and 1987. To coincide with a major exhibit of his works at the Brooklyn Museum from April 3 to Aug. 23, a facsimile edition of several of Basquiat’s notebooks, titled “The Unknown Notebooks,” will be published in June, comprising 160 color illustrations.

Basquiat: The Unknown Notebooks is organized by the Brooklyn Museum and is curated by Dieter Buchhart, guest curator, with Tricia Laughlin Bloom, former Associate Curator of Exhibitions, Brooklyn Museum.
