LEVI’S® VINTAGE S/S 2017

50th Anniversary of Summer of Love

Housing over 20,000 rare and unique pieces of Levi’s clothing and artifacts from the last 140 years, the Levi’s Archives is a denim gold mine. Each season, Levi’s Vintage Clothing designers dip into the Archive to pull inspiration from history and iconic products of the past.

The Spring/Summer 2017 collection features seasonal icons that curate a moment in Levi’s® history – the Summer of ’67 – one of the most defining times in San Francisco’s counterculture movement. During this period, a generation emerged that began rejecting the conformist values of Cold War America and demanded cultural and social changes. Soon, the curious youth of America made the pilgrimage West to “turn on, tune in, and drop out” so they could enjoy the popular, psychedelic music that exploded during this highly creative period. The Summer of Love birthed debut albums from the likes of Pink Floyd, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, and The Velvet Underground.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Summer of Love, the Levi’s® Vintage Clothing Spring/Summer 2017 features bold prints and graphics of the 1960s Levi’s® archival product. Key pieces include the Crazy Legs Jean – a jean that’s as bright and carefree as the summer of ’67. Crazy Legs prints like Love Trip, Snakes,Eye Test and Big Lashes are exact reproductions of the originals and said to have been inspired by the popular 1960s sketch comedy show, Laugh-In. The 4 piece Crazy Legs collection will have a limited production run of 100 units per style. Other Summer of Love inspired pieces include the psychedelic Spread Collar Shirt and the Shorthorn Fringe Jacket in suede, a festival favorite then and now.
