A chair is a common and banal object but pretty much essential for our everyday life. Thus, why not make the chair the main furniture of the house? This is the idea of Máximo Riera who designed the limited edition Animal Chair collection to make this object more present and creative in a room. Only 20 pieces of each chair has been ever produced.

“Whilst considering the chair’s basic functionality, I also wanted to bring it alive, make it more present and create a stronger link between the spectator, the piece and the surrounding space”.

The collection constitutes a diverse range of species, including octopus, walrus and rhino. Each chair retains the animal’s natural vitality whilst being totally biologically accurate in their appearance. Indeed, Riera chose huge animals so highly impractical – yet also fun in a way. Reira’s designs have textures that mimic the real epidermises of these creatures; it actually can be kind of freaky since from a certain angle, they look as though they could be real.
