The master society
Launches its first issue
The Master Kong Society (named after the honorific title of Confucius) seeks to create a collaborative artistic network based on the main ethical teachings of Confucianism. The Chinese image-based publication features a collection of themed work created by guest artists. For its first issue, the team decided to work with 10 local photographers such as Peter Augustus, Xyza Cruz Bacani, Choe Kar Hoo, Ivan Chung, Lam Pok Yin Jeff, Alain Pang, Kurt Tong, Easton Tsang Ka Wai, HK Urbex, and Katie Vajda. All of them were asked to show how they see Hong Kong. Luckily, artists answered differently to the question, which gave readers the opportunity to see this chaotic city under diverse lights.
Independent and advertisement free, the mission of the quarterly is to champion the true local art scene by showcasing a mix of emerging and established artists, giving a voice to the spirit of the current age.
The Master Kong Quarterly launches its first issue with this quote: “Now the man of perfect virtue, wishing to be established himself, seeks also to establish others; wishing to be enlarged himself, he seeks also to enlarge others.”
