Modernist Revival and In Between Spaces

Photographic Exhibition

This show presents the work of two photographers' individual projects. Jon Mortimer's 'Modernist Revival' and Max Cramer's 'In between spaces'. The exhibition runs until Sunday 30th November.

"My love affair with Mod culture began when I was at school and I saw Quadrophenia for the first time. I’d never really belonged to any youth culture – even if I did think I was a Rude Boy for about a week – and though I was never a Mod myself, the music, the style and the attitude of disaffected suburban youth really appealed to me. Mod culture is one of the last real survivors of youth cultures, and I can see this revival growing and becoming stronger. I still don’t belong to it, but I am glad it is there." Jon Mortimer

Born in London, UK in 1971, Jon Mortimer lives and works in Berlin and London. He studied photography by assisting photographers such as Annie Leibovitz and Tim Brett Day in London in the early 90s. He spent the end of the 90s photographing the Mod Revival scene of which this show is a selection along with the just published 2nd run of his book: Modernist Revival.

Max Cramer's images were taken over the course of two years between 2012 and 2014. They amalgamate his attraction to nature all the way to his interest in the visual experience of abstraction. Equally, they present an intimate portrait of his relationship with his environment. Important elements in Cramer's photography are the virginity of the object together with a specific composition of light with a hidden depth. He is combining analogue photography with advanced digital print technology.

Born in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1982, Cramer lives and works in Berlin and London. He studied Media Science in Cologne, graduating in 2008. Since 2012 Max is working for Nan Goldin in Berlin, Paris and New York.
