MONDAY MIXTAPE: ALBIN JULIUS

schiass di nieda

Austrian musician, label boss and leisure traveler Albin 'Sunlight' Julius shines with a prolific history of genre defying masterworks, producing music best known under the moniker 'Der Blutharsch', one of the most important acts in the martial industrial movement and also one of the most interesting ones to follow the evolution of. Julius also founded the history-themed, folk-based ensemble 'The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath a Cloud', a group that obtained cult status by producing Wagnerian drama propelled by martial rhythms and funereal melodies. They sadly disbanded in 1998 after Albin's and vocalist Alzbeth's partnership broke up.

The early 'Der Blutharsch' material was very dark ambient in sound, heavy on historic samples and post-industrial melodic drones, and sometimes controversially discussed. As the discography increased, the material became more lively, with the more bombastic approach and a focus on a form of martial industrial with emphasis on neoclassical instrumentation combined with experimentalism. With the release of 'When Did Wonderland End?' in 2005, Julius changed musical direction towards psychedelia. Gone were the martial aspects, only apparent to some extent in promotional imagery. The band officially disbanded in 2010, but was newly founded as 'Der Blutharsch And The Infinite Church Of The Leading Hand' in the same year.

Julius also runs the Hau Ruck! music label which releases projects from friends and personal favorites like Mushroom's Patience, Novy Svet or Changes, as well as brand-new talents. Stay tuned for an extensive interview we did with him, and make sure to check out his contribution to our mixtape series in the meantime. Enjoy the ride!
