MONDAY MIXTAPE: BIRD OF PARADISE

"cultivated from the earth"

Bird of Paradise, known to friends and family as Jo Howard, is a young UK producer that came to prominence via his output on Jennifer Cardini’s label Correspondant and New York’s Throne of Blood, followed by releases and contributions on NEIN, Blindetonation and Multi Culti’s highly acclaimed Moon Faze compilation made him a force to count on. In all of Jo’s music it becomes evident that he is not your usual electronic music producer. He comes from a much wider background. Raised on a steady diet of punk/post punk, and learning to play instrumentation from an early age defines why Jo’s way of arranging music and his eclectic taste is different to his peers. So does his DJ skills. Besides running his own party, Cubik, in his native Sunderland in North East England, he’s also a resident at Man Powers 'Tourist Parties' in neighbouring Newcastle, which have afforded him the opportunity to play alongside such luminaries as Todd Terje, John Talabot, Daniel Avery and Ivan Smagghe. He now also finds time time to work with three close friends running the praised 'Body Talk' parties in Newcastle hosting some of the finest current DJ’s on the circuit.

With a busy release schedule for 2017, plans to curate a whole host of oddities from friends and acquaintances for his newly founded label 'Sulk Magic Recordings’, some remixes due out on Me Me Me and Regith in February and an ever growing touring schedule, this year looks set to see him cement his standing as one of the most promising musical newcomers in recent years.

We’re glad Jo found some time to record some exclusive stuff for our Monday Mixtape series. Enjoy!
