MONDAY MIXTAPE: MARGOT

"Luglio Pioggia"

Having releases on James Holden’s and Ivan Smagghe’s labels - some of the most individual and household names in leftfield electronic dance music - is more than an accolade for any producer and DJ, but it also perfectly depicts Margot’s wide musical spectrum - while still delivering a remarkable, unique signature sound. Their marvellous „France 2 EP“, released on Holden’s Border Community, was essential to the far out druggy sets by the master of Neo-Kraut-Trance for quite a while, while „Magico Disco“ on Smagghe’s Kill The DJ label was something you couldn’t miss on last year’s dancefloors, which now was followed by „Waldorf“ on Les Disques De La Mort. „Freely and without impositions“, as the Rimini duo Pepe and Giaga Robot describe their own sound, is a quote you definetely can take for granted. Having a good bunch of releases on mentioned labels as well as on Hell Yeah Recordings, Great Stuff, Re-Vox, Holger and others won’t stop them to run their own label, Margot Records, which focusses on their italian friends and some other branches of their own output.

And yes, Margot’s DJ/ Live sets are a purpose-built shrine for their sound, where Pepe’s DJ skills accompany Giaga’s live versions of their own material, some tools and his vocal outpourings that all sit comfortably next to a handfull of mushrooms, some lines of ketamine and a set of ejectors seat buckles ready to propel you to sombrero galaxy.
