MONDAY MIXTAPE: MAX ESSA

Miyajima Splice

Yes, we know, it’s tuesday again. May it be the first summer laziness or did we just get lost in Max Essa's Monday Mixtape contribution? We don’t even know for ourselves, but here it is: a buttery smooth hour of lens flare material for all the sunsets to come. Soon. Or later.

Max, born as Matthew Bruce in the UK (now residing in Tokyo), has been active as a DJ and producer since the early 90s, releasing music on labels such as Warp Records and Paperecordings and DJing alongside the infamous D.i.Y Sound System. His later and newer output can be found on Feel Music, Electric Minds, Bear Funk, Is It Balearic?, his brother’s Palms & Charms label (whose Monday Mixtape btw. still is on heavy rotation in our office and always worth a check out), Eskimo and most recently on Hell Yeah!, an EP that got described by label boss Marco Gallerani as “the most Balearic record I have ever released”.

So, after we got caught by his recording, it’s time for you to follow. Enjoy!
