MONDAY MIXTAPE: The Twins

THE TWINS, SELF PORTRAIT (A journey Between Sense And Nonsense)

It’s been not even two years since The Twins made a big impact to everyone who’s truly interested into the weird, the haunting, the far-fetched, uncommon areas of dancefloor music with the track „Water Coaster“ (Optimo Music). Since then each piece of The (Truly Fantastic [Dessagne]) Twins' [From Saint-Etienne] releases was kind of a masterpiece, as remarkable, unique and Twins-style as it could get.

Originally devised for the spoken-word framework of Pachanga Boys’ full-length debut „We Are Really Sorry“ from 2012, The Twins is a project that quickly took on a life on its own. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering that Saschienne’s Julienne Dessagne is the mastermind behind The Twins: drawing on her broad connoisseurship of dance music’s sonic fringes, she likes to conjure up massive synth drones and swooping vocal textures, all aligned by a particularly strong sense of melody and ambience. This results in a highly immersive amalgam of different electronic eras, as inciting as it is intoxicating. After highly acclaimed releases on art house imprints Hippie Dance and Optimo Music, The Twins now hits the dance floors with an analogue-driven live act ready to free your mind and have your buttocks following.

But Julienne is also showing a strong taste when it comes to doing mixes. Remember that Serial Experiments mix we’ve reposted in our recommendations list for quite a while? We were so into it that we had to ask her for a contribution for Lodown. It took a while, but we’re more than honoured to bring it to you today. It’s an hour of stuff you rarely get to hear or you would expect in a dance mix, containing a good bunch of unreleased music and records by A.R. & Machines, Pilooski, Rita Furstenhof, Supermayer, Acid Arab, Holden, Green Door All-Stars and more. Perfect to bring colour, deepness and weirdness into this dull autumn monday. Enjoy!
