MONDAY MIXTAPE:STRAPONTIN

"The Unexpected Fun Ambition"

After first getting on our radar through his contribution to I’m A Cliché’s superb edit section about a year ago with a gluey Brigitte Fontaine edit (I’m A Cliché Edit Service #71) and soon followed up by his amazingly good Pedigree EP on La Belle (with one of the - in our honest opinion - most striking music videos of last year), Strapontin can be considered as one of the driving forces of  Brussel’s dance and performance scene. Shamelessly and without self-restriction he’s juggling disco noir, sleazy queer house, dark slo-mo crawlers, techno and wise electronica following his own specific vibe. Besides cooking up the floors, the french-born artist also produces soundtracks for movies and choreographers. He composed O.S.T.s for multiple dance shows: Miss XX and RDV Tomorrow (by Natalia Vallebona), Alterophile (Lorenzo De Angelis), ODOKAO (Joseph Rioton) and created numerous pieces himself as a performer/choreographer (Out of Focus ; Love to Love; La Nuit en Plein Soleil).

His newest release „The Boxhead Couple“ is out on Tablon now, a release that got described as «…an undefinable mini-album, an intense and obscure experience, travelling through psychedelic ambient to heavy mental techno or 108 bpm house hit: Strapontin is offering a very intimate view on music and that’s freaking refreshing.» and it absolutely leaves no doubt why his tracks are played by Optimo, Ivan Smagghe and the likes. Another EP is about to be released in May on NEIN Records.

His Monday Mixtape contribution is „something different from my latest album, working more with upbeat groovy disco noir tracks. It's a way of showing another aspect of my music, more dancefloor oriented tracks also made of weirdness and dark sexy voices.“ and with mixing in classics like WhoMadeWho’s Flat Eric Gomma version and the inexcusable underrated Soft Pink Truth he totally got us on some arising spring feelings. Merci beaucoup, Patrick!
