Sewn drawing

by Jessi Wohl

Tennessee based illustrator Jessi Wohl usually works in the fields of drawing, painting, collage, installation, and performance. She exploits the uncanny while subverting domestic representations of perfection and happiness.

In her new series entitled “Sewn Drawing”, Jessi kept working around the concept of home and it’s residents. This time, she masked people on old family portraits with sewing  to embody the metaphor of the human need to “keep it together” and prevent life from “ripping apart at the seams”. This unusual technique is also a way to reclaim the photograph as a unique and handmade object.
