Susan Sontag Revisited

Transatlantic and Transmedia Transmissions

In January 2015 a series of events in Berlin will focus on the multifaceted work of the American intellectual and artist Susan Sontag (1933-2004).

Susan Sontag was a Essayist, author, theatre and film director, pop culture icon. She effortlessly combined intellect, glamour and dissidence. Her essays on photography and war reporting, cancer and AIDS are legendary. And she also appeares in films by Woody Allan and Andy Warhol and made half a dozen films herself.

The Arsenal Cinema, which Sontag once lauded as “my favorite movie theater on the planet”, will screen all of her films, which have never before been shown in Berlin. Susan Sontag exemplified extensive interdisciplinarity. This kind of thinking outside the box is the topic of the symposium on 29 and 30 January 2015 at the ICI Berlin Institute for Cultural Inquiry.
