Surfing in General: 1992 to 2015

New York based gallery Joshua Liner just announced another great exhibition for spring: “Surfing in General: 1992 to 2015”, a series of photographs from Thomas Campbell. The artist might be better known for his paintings and movies about surfing such as “The Seedling” or “Sprout”... but as a photographer he is giving a poetical dimension to this beloved topic by using an unorthodox colour palette in his photographs. His portraits carry an alternative approach, he exaggerates burning and dodging effects to create high contrast images. Moreover, he prefers film over digital, “I feel that film has a deeper dimension, and digital is almost cold” he once stated.

In his photographs Morocco is very present. Actually, Campbell has a special relationship with the country, he likes to integrate fast action wave carving shots with henna dyed hands of Moroccan women, herds of camels or desert camper vans loaded with boards, forming visual novellas transcribing each trip.

Joshua Liner Gallery will show his artworks in NYC from May 7th to June 6th.
