What Things Dream

Wiebke Siem at K20 Düsseldorf

04.02. - 19.06.2015

Opening: 3 February 2016, 6:30pm

Especially for the "Labor" of the K20, this artist – who received the prestigious Goslar Kaiserring in 2014 – has created her latest work Der Traum der Dinge / What Things Dream, which incorporates the visitor directly into the work. For this installation, Siem (who was born in Kiel in 1954) spent months assembling wooden objects old and new. These simple household intensities utensils are known to all of us from family life or through daily use: basins, old washboards, walking sticks, spoons, shoe lasts.

Currently in the "Labor" exhibition space in the 2nd upper level of the Kunstsammlung NRW am Grabbeplatz, Siem makes these components available to visitors like "construction kits" for assembling entire ensembles of new sculptures. The individual elements are on display and can be combined into new constellations according to the individual's discretion.
