The person with the biggest vinyl collection in the world actually lives in Brazil. Jose Roberto, alias Zero Freitas, 62, has more than five million records, all kept in a huge warehouse with a few employees taking care of them. Zero Freitas is a wealthy businessman who owns a private bus line that serves the São Paolo suburbs. His collection has been built over the years, and he’s the first to admit that it’s a very special kind of addiction. He bought the vinyl collections of Paul Mawhinney from Pittsburgh and Murray Gershenz, who is another important collector from the US West Coast. The brilliant thing is though that he doesn’t want to keep them all for himself - he wishes to share all the records with the public by creating an online library.

According to him this big collection is tied up in childhood memories, and he wants to share this with the people so they can “recall their memories”, too. A project we are looking forward to, indeed.
