TUBULAR
bold and distinctive
When the Tubular sneaker entered the scene in the early nineties, it refused to play by the conventional design rules and resulted in a super cushioned outsole on the sneaker. Wearers were even able to customize the comfort level of the outsole with an air pump. The manufacturing of the shoe back then was slightly complex, because it was simply too far ahead of its time.
Belonging to a new generation of radical footwear, the Tubular is a contemporary take on the adidas classics, blending tactile elements and fearless perspectives into a streamlined silhouette. The Y3 Casa was an inspiration and vice versa as both are originating from Nic Galway, adidas VP of global design. Turning heads under the consortium umbrella, the Tubular returned in late 2014 and followed up with more variations. Made from two densities of EVA and with a plate that distributes weight across the tyre-like profile, the Tubular outsole delivers comfort, lightness and agility. Engineered to fit with a contemporary lifestyle where innovative technology is as important as a unique design language.
Tubular Dawn
Offering two unique approaches to adidas’ latest women’s exclusive silhouette, the release culminates as a bold exploration of understated color schemes against the unquestionably modern Tubular Dawn design.
Tone and texture determines the first iteration with a matte mesh textile upper in Utility Black, coming with 3D embroidered details on the forefoot and heel, a reflective silicone print and finished with a nubuck leather heel piece. The Primeknit edition in Trace Olive is swapping mesh out for adaptive Primeknit material with a woven speckle motif, countered with a leather heel piece as well for a premium take on the Tubular Dawn aesthetic.
Tubular Doom Trio
Three is the magic number for the Tubular Doom and comes correct in different Primeknit modifications, bringing the shoe’s sock-fit design to its apex. The Tubular Doom Sock is structured by a rear heel-support piece and overlays, an integrated lacing system and is finished with the distinctive Tubular Doom tooling and understated branding details on the tongue. Tubular’s most aggressive silhouette appears in a more refined and accessible aesthetic, available in Charcoal and Sesame/Clear Brown colorways for the dudes. The women’s-exclusive iteration is adding texture to the shoe’s fluid design. Keeping up with the original energy, the clean Trace Pink colorway with contrast Vapour Grey details adding a softer, feminine context.
Introducing a new silhouette: Tubular Rise
This might be the boldest iteration, that amplifies Tubular’s fundamental elements into a bold new context. The Primeknit upper provides an adaptive, comfortable foundation, structured by a large suede midfoot cage and elastic heel counter. Space-dyed neon fibres in the upper textile push the futuristic aesthetic even further and is placed atop a textured EVA midsole with molded stability plugs, including an overflow panel that rises up across the shoe’s heel quarter. The bold design statement comes in an understated tonal tan colorway with matching accents.
