INTERNATIONAL POP
PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART
Amplifying a history commonly associated with major American figures like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, this groundbreaking survey explores Pop Art as a global phenomenon that was shaped by international artists.
With paintings, sculptures, assemblages, installations, prints, and films by eighty artists, this exhibition will examine the factors that shaped artistic activity in the social democracies of Europe, the military regimes of Latin America, and Japan in the aftermath of U.S. occupation. It will include sections devoted to vital hubs of Pop activity in Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, the U.K. and the U.S. Highlights will include works by Antônio Henrique Amaral, Evelyne Axell, Yves Klein, Claes Oldenburg, Gerhard Richter, Ed Ruscha, Niki de Saint Phalle, Ushio Shinohara, and Andy Warhol amongst many others.
24 February - 15 May, 2016 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art
