11th PICTOPLASMA

Form Follows Empathy

The 11th PICTOPLASMA BERLIN FESTIVAL 2015 presented by UNIQLO takes place on 29th of April until 3rd of May 2015 at the main venues Silent Green, Urban Spree, Babylon am Rosa Luxemburg Platz, Platoon Kunsthalle, and numerous art spaces throughout Berlin.

In its 11th edition, the Pictoplasma Festival makes Berlin once again the epicentre for character design in illustration, animation and art. At the heart is an exhibition with 18 international artists and designers at a very unexpected location – Silent Green, located on the premises of the dormant former crematory. Other highlights are animation film screenings at Babylon am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, performances in the container architecture Platoon and a group show presenting work of the alumni of the Pictoplasma Academy at Urban Spree.

Partner of Pictoplasma 2015 is UNIQLO, the Japanese brand for apparel. During the Festival, their Global Flagship Store on Tauentzien in Berlin's West presents a fine selection of artist books, hand-picked design products and special character gadgets. Additionally, the Japanese artist Akinori Oishi awaits visitors to help them characterize their own T-Shirts with UTme!, a unique app that makes it possible to design and instantly print your own T-Shirt. Akinori Oishi will personally introduce the new library of character elements he created exclusively for UNIQLO Berlin. Dates are: Wednesday, April 29, 15-19h and Saturday, May 2, 13-17h at Uniqlo Flagship Store, Tauentzien.

The Main Exhibition 'Form Follows Empathy' at the Krematorium Wedding opening celebration is held on 29th of April from 18-22h. at Silent Green, Gerichtstraße 35, 13347 Berlin.

17 international artists present new original work –sculptures, paintings, art editions and multiples – many of them for the first time in Berlin. Offering a surprising selection of affordable art during Berlin's Gallery Weekend, on the equally surprising premises of a dormant former crematory, the exhibition includes animist vases from Korea, polished resin skulls from Peru, darkly humorous prints from Spain, haunting child portraits from Japan and a multitude of fresh, character-driven art mixing pop culture with anthropomorphic spiritualism.
