eVolo Magazine’s Skyscraper Competition

Big cities such as NYC become more and more overpopulated as countrysides are getting more deserted; as a result many architects and designers imagine the city of the future.

One of the latest projects is “Times Square 3015”, simply a vertical city that reach almost above the clouds, located right in the heart of Times Square. This project was part of the eVolo Magazine’s Skyscraper Competition... it didn’t win but was one of the favourites.

The skyscraper is supposed to be able to sustain a whole city in 3015. Indeed, the re-design would contain shops, restaurants, houses, offices but also a stadium, a beach, vertical farms and a Redwood forest. Basically, everything a human ever needs (does anybody need a stadium, really?). The idea is to not need to leave the giant tower. But who would live in this kind of building? It’s an easy guess since it would probably be some lucky few locked in a golden tower... kind of like in some Brazilian cities where rich people move from one building to another by helicopter.
