As usual Banksy - or not Banksy – spread the doubt around new artworks and a video made in Gaza. “Make this the year YOU discover a new destination” is the ironic titled of the video passed by Time Magazine.

As usual Banksy is using his trademark humour to highlight the sad reality of living in Gaza by showing it like a tourism video. Instead of beaches it offers viewers an opposite narrative of this paradise country: Tunnels, rubble and children gazing at some of the 18,000 homes destroyed last July in Israel’s Operation Protective Edge. Indeed, Banksy seems very concerned by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since it’s not his first time he traveled to these territories.

As usual, known for his subversive street art, Banksy brings face to face the Western apathy - who needs “Lolcat” to capture the internauts attention - and the life of two millions humans being stuck in an open air prison. Indeed, who would have been interested in Gaza without Banksy’s artworks? This conflict brought weariness and as a result nothing is done to change the situation. The United Nations just stated that more than 2,100 Palestinians were killed in the conflict in Gaza. According to U.N. estimates, at least 70% of the Palestinians killed were civilians, but Israel reports a higher number of militants among the dead.

As usual, Banksy is using strong symbols such as the kitten in a devastation area or the carnival swing ride attached to a surveillance tower. And as usual, as soon as Banksy gets his hand on a stencil, people and media take notice.
