My aim is to capture what I feel is the true essence of a fight by documenting the rush, sound and the chaotic feel of the environment as much as I can through my photography.

‘Fight Club’ didn’t appear from out of nowhere in Chuck Palahniuk’s head; he was actually an active member of the Rebellion Cacophony Society. And today these illegal fighting clubs still exist.

Photographer Devin Yalkin has found an illegal boxing club in the heart of Manhattan by accident, and then made the series "The Old One Two". Although he never boxed himself, Yalkin decided to follow this underground scene - not only for the fights but also for the sweaty atmosphere and the spectators. He has managed to be able to capture the strange world of this club called 'Friday Night Throwdown', which sees men (and women) of all kinds, notably ones for a thirst for blood, turning up for sinking their teeth into some rather violent action.

His black and white images, which he began shooting in November 2010, seem to come from another time, the 40’s or 50’s - the only misleading signs are the smartphones in some backgrounds.
