Don Davis x Rick Guidice

Space Colony Art

In the 70s the Cold War was ruling the international affairs and space conquest was a power proof. After the success of the Apollo 11 mission, many dreamt of  human life in space. During a series of NASA summer universities dedicated to human life in space, the artists Don Davis and Rick Guidice illustrated their ideas about colonizing places n a galaxy far far away.

The illustrations are based on the work of physician Gerard O’Neill. Indeed, the space stations have the shape of a donut, spherical and cylindrical, in order to turn into orbit to simulate gravity and contain huge mirrors to reflect the sun inside. This project is no longer on the agenda but the drawings are pretty damn impressive - a nice alternative to the generic computer graphics we are used to these days.
