il n'y a pas d'homosexuel en Iran

“In Iran we don’t have homosexuals like in your country” these are the words of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former President of Iran during a trip to NYC. Photographer Laurence Rasti took his words again to call her portrait series of Iranian homosexual couples: “Il n’y a pas d’homosexuel en Iran”. Many Iranian homosexuals take refuge in Turkey, waiting for another life somewhere else in Europe to freely live their sexuality. Laurence Rasti met some of them in the city of Denizli, a small town in Turkey.

Even if in many of her photographs the faces are covered, instead of giving a dramatic narration, she is using a kind of playful pop style - instead of uncovered faces there is flowers, colourful veils or simply kisses.
