exactitude

When it’s about clothing, people tend to feel this urge to be original and different... but in actuality you never really are.

Since 1994 two photographers from the Netherlands captured the particular clothing style of different young people. Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek gave birth to a first project titled “Gabbers“, a series of striking portraits of young bold men that wear the same tracksuit jacket. Twenty years later, they resurfaced with another on-going project by the name of “Exactitude” - and they noticed that diversity in clothing is going downhill.

So what is the reason for that? According to them the answer is strongly connected to the Internet, paradoxically. The huge amount of information leads you to seek for a community - a phenomenon they call the “same-style syndrome”. The two photographers think that since the world is becoming global, the young people are becoming more and more identical - and it’s difficult to find a sub-culture.

To celebrate their project, which is on since more then twenty years, they will release a new book with new series of portraits never revealed before.
