Frédéric Fontenoy is a French artist/photographer that's kind of obsessed with the human body, which he just loves to capture through a rather intimate and erotic aesthetic.

Born in 1963, Fontenoy started to become well-known through a series called “Metamorphosis” that he realized between 1988 and 1990; particular series shows weird and incredible blurred and abstract photographs of a naked man who's doing all sorts of contortions - and totally looks like a monster from a Miyazaki movie.

His project “Detail” shows different photographs of human navels. As he explains on his website, this is the first scar, the first independence and the first loss, breaking the link with the mother.

“I always created erotic work, since I started taking pictures: first more intimate, then evolving into a more conceptual work, a photographic fiction, referring to our collective unconscious. The mindset of my photography is erotic, but a photo itself doesn’t have to arouse lust.”
