By the end of the 70s NYC’s Studio 54 probably was one of the most famous and legendary nightclubs in the world, promising sex, drugs and disco, glitter, celebrities, glamour and excess.

Swedish-born photojournalist Hasse Persson releases a breathtaking compilation of photographs from this hedonistic era at the Studio 54. The black and white photographs reveal the dionysian atmosphere, just as if these colourful characters were directly coming from a feverish dream.

Sometimes the photographs are blurred as if they evoke the energy and the continuing movement of the party. Indeed, the iconic disco club, with an existence of 33 months only, was best known for its debauchery and celebrity clientele – just imagine every big name of the 70s and you’re halfway there.

After having taken pictures of people partying at Studio 54 for three years, Hasse Persson had to stop due to the arrest of the club’s owners. Nevertheless, he managed to compile more than 200-plus pages of head-spinning imagery.
