ITAF 2014

International Teletext Art Festival

From August 14th to September 14th will take place the ITAF: International Teletext Art Festival. For their third edition the great festival invited 18 artists such as Anne Horel, Kim Assenford, Michaël Borras, and Nadine Arbeiter.

Soon after its introduction in our daily life – 40 years ago – artists have recognized the design features of the Teletext and started to use it as an art medium. And now, thanks to ITAF who gives us the opportunity to see la crème de la crème of the Teletext art.

ITAF wants their artists to take minimalism as a challenge, and reduction as an incentive. Thus, they’ll be allowed to use no more than 24 lines with 39 characters, and to use a limited number of colors. Those restrictions will give them the chance to create something with a strong visual appeal in today’s world of HD resolution.

In addition, for the first time in ITAF’s life, the audience is asked to participate in “ITAF in the house” and to document Teletext art in the private and public sphere. All you have to do is to send a picture of your tv screen with the hashtag #Itaf14. All pictures will be published on the Itaf in the House blog.

The artworks of ITAF 2014 will be shown in teletext and at the Museusquartier Vienna, at the Internationale Funkausstellung IFA, and at Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenbrug (rbb) in Berlin, as well as in a pop-up gallery at the Internationale Funkausstellung IFA in Berlin.
