School teaches everything, from the important basics - writing, reading, counting - to the lesser ones, such as how to cheat at rope skipping... which obviously is as important as the rest though. As a child school is mainly about the break times and the social interaction in the playground. It is where you experienced games, laughs and tears.

Photographer James Mollison who has been widely published throughout the world (The New York Times, the Guardian, Le Monde, etc.) photographed children at play in their school courtyards around the world in countries such as India, Bhutan, Japan, Norway, US or Kenya among others. From rich to poorer schools his photographs show the global diversity and inequality. Yet, they are all linked with the same atmosphere: the desire to play, an instinct anchored in every kid.

The book “Playground” consists of a series of 59 photographs.
