Julian Röder

der dritte blick

Celebrated photographer Julian Röder is part of the current group exhibition “Der Dritte Blick“, which is running until November 7 at Berlin's Willy-Brandt-Haus.

The exhibition showcases imagery captured by photographers that were born in the former GDR in the 70s and 80s, asking how their personal experiences regarding Germany's unification affected both - their work and their life.

“Julian Röder was eight years old when the fall of the Wall brought about the end of an era. Those from his generation who experienced the change during their formative years - provided that they were able to avoid pressures to adapt and conform - are starkly sensitized to societal incidents that reverse and alter customs. His photographs are political, not only in the sense of an image politics that impregnates various social spheres, but also in that they are thematically direct.“

Images to the left are taken from Röder's “The Summits“ series.
