MONDAY MIXTAPE: DANIEL HAAKSMAN
BRAZIL NOW!
Berlin based Daniel Haaksman virtually is always on the go in his element - music. As a DJ, producer, label owner and journalist he single-handedly introduced the sound of Rio de Janeiro’s favelas to an international audience via his groundbreaking “Rio Baile Funk Favela Booty Beats“ (Essay Recordings, 2004) compilation.
For our brand-new issue he contributed a fantastic piece on the new wave of Brazilian producers, DJs and bands to the centerpiece on Brazil’s significant influence on today’s pop culture, which easily proves that this giant country has so much more to offer than “The Girl from Ipanema“ romanticization and an impressive history of trash metal bands. Check his accompanying mix - and latest entry for our Monday Mixtape series - below.
