“Photography will always be a medium for artistic expression because of its fundamental nature as an extension of the human sense of sight. Social media has embraced photography because our basic human desire to communicate is conveniently served by digital photography and the ability of social media to share images instantly. Smartphone photographs and photo sharing are new technologies in a long line of innovations in photographic technology. These innovations have made photography simpler in the process and more available to a wider audience. You should remember though that a phone is a phone and a camera takes pictures, so don’t get confused. There is a formality when using a camera that doesn’t exist when taking phone photos.“ - Chris Makos

A few weeks ago we decided to turn this very issue into a photography special... so, yeah, what does that actually mean? Photography is an open field and hard to grasp these days because it seems everyone can take a decent picture with the recent developments in hardware. We want to take a stand for the elaborated photography; we want to feature artists that bring passion and dedication to the table, regardless if they work meticulously on a specific set for hours and hours or if they’re basically shooting from the hip to capture a random yet specific moment that otherwise would’ve been forgotten.

Or in other words: those who deliver iconic and heavily inspiring imagery that shapes our perception in new ways. Hope you enjoy the ride as much as we do.
