MONDAY MIXTAPE: NEW YORK ENDLESS
another mix pt.1
If you’re not the type that hangs out at the record store three days a week and checking the music blogs and soundcloud every day, and if you, for some reason (we hope not), don’t even have Golf Channel Recordings on your radar, you probably (again: we hope not) haven’t heard of New York Endless yet, but I bet you’ve stumbled over Dan Selzer (the guy behind New York Endless) before - probably not even knowing about it. Dan, raised with a good dose of punk and new wave in the Jersey suburbs, began DJing loft parties in Brooklyn. His first weekly party at the Plant Bar with members of the Rapture was somewhat of a DFA’s early headquarter. He used to DJ with Mike Simonetti of Italians Do It Better under the name Crazy Rhythms, put together a mix CD for RVNG that quickly sold out, he used to run Acute Records, a post-punk reissue label (Glenn Branca, Theoretical Girls, Ike Yard, Disco Zombies, The Trypes etc.), he does a radio show, did music supervising for the No Wave cinema documentary Blank City and as a graphic designer he did the artworks for Metro Area’s album, Danny Wang and basically everything for Acute. Man, that feels like what we Berliners call a Hans-Dampf-in-allen-Gassen. But, while all these outlets provide means for Dan to explore different kinds of music, he is most excited to be able to DJ to a live crowd and play the records that get them dancing, and whether it's a late night party at an illegal outer-borough loft, a trendy meatpacking district club, an elaborate wedding or a sweaty house party, Dan's just happy to be playing music.
We’re more than happy he did that for us. Enjoy!
