ON ROTATION

shit robot : we got a love

Marcus Lambkin aka Shit Robot is an integral part of James Murphy’s DFA outfit, even though he might be a bit off the radar compared to his omnipresent label-mates such as Holy Ghost or Factory Floor. His second longplayer though offers all the musical ingredients to change that: a) it flawlessly cites post-punk and disco without ever turning it into a kind of dull and hazy nostalgia-fest; b) it makes The Rapture’s Luke Jenner going all Barry Gibb on us on “Feels Real“; c) it gets Reggie Watts in the well-deserved spotlight on a couple of tracks; d) it’s the most positive sounding and generally jubilant album in weeks. There obviously is much more to “We Got a Love“, but the most fascinating thing probably is that its nine tracks are clearly designed for this world’s dance floors - which simply shouldn’t be enough for an album to bring to the table in 2014 - but oddly enough you can’t help but succumb to the record’s charms. Like on his debut “From The Cradle To The Rave“, Lambkin isn’t shying away from reminding us that just because we’ve already been to this place more than once in the past, it still can be a super rad one. 8.5/10
